Marge Elderberry
(Sambucus canadensis × S. nigra · Certified Organic)

Big berries. Bigger yields. A cold-hardy powerhouse that bridges European and American genetics—with unmatched productivity in the field.

Full Product Description

Marge is a unique elderberry cultivar—a hybrid of Sambucus canadensis and S. nigra—that combines the cold hardiness and flavor of American elders with the size and yield of European varieties. It's one of the most vigorous, high-yielding cultivars available—and it's the one we’ve planted the most of on our own farm.

This variety performed at the top of multi-year trials conducted by the University of Missouri, consistently out-yielding both S. canadensis and other S. nigra cultivars. It produces large, flavorful berries, is mostly self-fertile, and cross-pollinates across both American and European types—making it a valuable anchor plant for any elderberry grower.

Marge bushes grow upright with dense canes that don't sucker, making pruning and harvesting easier in tight rows. We've grown certified organic Marge elderberries for over five years with excellent results in Zone 3 conditions.

If you're looking for fruit volume, consistent performance, and pollination versatility—this is your elder.
