What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between farmers and members. By purchasing a share before the season begins, you directly support the work of growing certified organic food.
In return, you receive a weekly share of freshly harvested vegetables throughout the summer. Each share reflects the natural rhythm of the season; what is growing, thriving, and ready to harvest.
CSA connects you directly to the farm, the land, and the season.
That's...a lot of Veg
Our CSA shares are intentionally abundant. Some weeks bring a manageable harvest. Others bring a full expression of the season’s peak.
This abundance invites you to cook more, preserve what you can, and share with others. We provide guidance and tips throughout the season to help you make the most of your share.
If a full share feels like more than your household needs, many members choose to split it with a friend.
What's in a Summer Share?
Each weekly share includes:
• A diverse selection of certified organic vegetables
• Harvested within 24 hours of pickup
• Grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers
• Packed into your personal cooler to preserve freshness
• Reflective of the natural progression of the Northern growing season
Each week is different, shaped by weather, season, and the pace of the land.

CSA FAQ
Defining CSA
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It’s a partnership between a farm and its members.
By purchasing a share before the growing season begins, you secure a weekly share of freshly harvested, certified organic vegetables throughout the summer. Your early commitment helps cover the upfront costs of farming, including seeds, soil, infrastructure, and labor.
In return, we grow and share the harvest with you, week by week, as it unfolds. Each share reflects the rhythm of the season and the care behind every crop.
This is food grown just down the road.
Shared Risk & Reward
CSA is a partnership between farmer and member. By joining, you support the farm at the start of the season, and in return, receive a share of the harvest as it grows and unfolds.
Farming, especially in the North, is shaped by weather, temperature, and natural conditions beyond anyone’s control. Some weeks bring abundance. Others reflect the quieter pace of the season.
To provide consistency, we grow a wide diversity of crops and use succession planting to ensure steady harvests throughout the summer. Our commitment is to steward the land carefully and provide you with the best of what the season offers, week by week.
This model allows small farms like ours to grow with stability, resilience, and care.
What happens if a crop fails?
Farming is shaped by weather and natural conditions, and individual crops may occasionally underperform or fail.
To provide consistency, we grow a wide diversity of certified organic vegetables and use succession planting throughout the season. This ensures that each week’s share reflects what is thriving in the field, even if specific crops vary.
CSA membership supports the farm at the start of the season and is non-refundable. In return, members receive a share of the harvest as it unfolds across the full growing season.
Our commitment is to grow with care, adapt when needed, and provide the strongest and most abundant harvest possible.
How many does a share feed?
Our Summer CSA Share is designed to feed two to four people, depending on how often you cook at home and how central vegetables are in your meals.
Each week brings a diverse selection of freshly harvested, certified organic vegetables ready to anchor seasonal cooking. Households that cook regularly and enjoy eating with the seasons typically use their full share.
Some members choose to split a share with a friend or neighbor, which can be a great way to share both the harvest and the experience.
Why do I need to provide coolers?
We use a cooler swap system to keep your produce fresh and reduce packaging waste.
Each member provides two clean, hard-sided 28-quart coolers by June 15. One cooler stays at the farm for packing, and each week you bring one clean, empty cooler to exchange for your filled share.
This system helps:
• Maintain freshness and protect produce quality
• Extend shelf life, especially for greens and delicate crops
• Reduce single-use packaging
• Keep pickups efficient and organized
Coolers must be hard-sided, 28-quart capacity, with attached lids and working handles, and in clean, good condition.
This simple system ensures your food stays fresh from harvest to home.
What are the pick up details?
Pickup takes place weekly at The Boreal Farm.
When: Tuesdays, 4:00–6:30 p.m.

Pickup occurs during the designated window only. Shares cannot be held or delivered if missed, but you may send someone in your place if needed.
Members are welcome to walk the farm during pickup hours. Please do not arrive early, as preparation and harvest are still underway.
How will I get updates and information?
We communicate primarily by email, using the address you provide at signup. This is how we share pickup reminders, seasonal updates, and any important information throughout the CSA season.
Each share has one designated primary contact responsible for receiving communication and coordinating pickup and cooler exchange. If you are sharing a CSA with another household, the primary contact will be responsible for passing along information as needed.
Please ensure your email address is current and checked regularly.
“That’s… a lot of veg!” Do I have to eat it all in a week?
Our CSA shares are intentionally generous, reflecting the natural abundance of the growing season.
Most members use their share throughout the week in everyday meals. Many also preserve extras by freezing, fermenting, drying, or incorporating vegetables into soups, sauces, and prepared dishes. We share storage tips and seasonal ideas to help you make the most of your harvest.
If a full share feels like more than your household needs, you may choose to split it with a friend or neighbor. Shares are packed for one pickup per week, and members coordinate any sharing independently.
CSA invites you to cook with the seasons, try new foods, and enjoy the rhythm of fresh harvest.
When is payment due?
Full payment is required at the time of signup and is completed securely through our website.
CSA membership supports the upfront costs of seeds, supplies, infrastructure, and labor required to grow the season’s harvest. This early commitment allows us to plan, plant, and steward the season with care.
Your share is reserved once payment is complete.
Are all shares packed the same each week?
Yes. Each week’s shares are packed as uniformly as possible so all members receive the same selection of vegetables.
Because farming is shaped by natural conditions, occasional substitutions may be necessary if a particular crop is limited. When this happens, we adjust thoughtfully to ensure every share reflects the diversity and abundance of the season.
Our goal is for all members to experience the full range of what the farm grows over the course of the season.
Will you be offering a Fall CSA?
Our primary CSA season runs from late June through September, reflecting the full arc of the Northern growing season.
We may offer limited fall harvest opportunities in the future as the farm continues to grow and expand. Any additional offerings will be announced through our newsletter and website.
