Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Agreement
Sow. Reap. Eat. Repeat.™
By purchasing a CSA share from The Boreal Farm, you are becoming a member of our 2025 CSA program. We’re thrilled to grow for you and want to be sure we’re all on the same page. This agreement outlines what you can expect from us—and what we expect from you in return.
1. Understanding the CSA Model
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a shared-risk model. Your early purchase helps cover the upfront costs of seeds, tools, staffing, and supplies. In return, you receive a share of our harvest each week throughout the Summer CSA season.
You’re not just buying vegetables—you’re entering into a seasonal partnership. Weather, pests, and other challenges can impact availability. But we work hard to grow a diverse, resilient crop using succession planting, regionally adapted seed, and ecological practices to ensure a beautiful, bountiful harvest.
2. Share Details
- Season: Tuesdays, June 24 – August 26, 2025
(Note: No pickup the week of June 30 due to the July 4 holiday.) - Pickup Time: 4:00–6:30 p.m.
- Location: The Boreal Farm, 5205 Arnold Road, Duluth, MN 55803
3. Pickup Commitment
You agree to:
- Pick up your share each week at the designated location and time
- Arrange for someone else to pick up if you’re unavailable (please notify us in advance)
- Understand that unclaimed shares will be donated to a local charity of our choosing after the pickup window closes
Please arrive during the scheduled pickup time. While early arrivals aren’t permitted, you’re welcome to walk around and enjoy the farm during open pickup hours.
4. Cooler Policy
To keep your produce fresh and reduce waste, we use a cooler-swap system. Each member agrees to:
- Provide two clean, hard-sided 28-quart coolers by June 15
Coolers must: - Bring one clean, dry cooler each week in exchange for your packed share
- Understand that failure to follow this policy may result in forfeiting your share that week
Why this matters:
Coolers keep your greens crisp, reduce handling, and extend shelf life—even if you’re running errands after pickup. This system also helps us streamline packing and transport for everyone’s benefit.
5. Communication
We communicate primarily via the email address you provide at sign-up. It is your responsibility to:
- Check this inbox regularly for updates and reminders
- Make sure our emails don’t go to your spam or promotions folder—please mark fresh@theborealfarm.com as a safe sender
- Assign one main point of contact per household to manage emails, pickups, and cooler exchanges
We may occasionally send text message reminders during the season for time-sensitive updates. These will always be brief and relevant—like pickup-day weather changes or last-minute details.
We do our best to respond to questions within 24 hours—though response times may vary during peak harvest weeks. If it’s urgent and related to a same-day pickup, please include that in the subject line so we can prioritize accordingly.
6. Substitutions
We aim to provide equal shares for all members each week. If a crop shortage requires substitution, we’ll track it and do our best to offer that item in a future box so everyone experiences the full range of seasonal variety.
7. Refunds and Cancellations
Your payment secures your spot in the program and is non-refundable, even in the event of crop failure, missed pickups, or unforeseen circumstances.
Each season is carefully planned based on the number of CSA members enrolled. Your membership helps us determine what and how much to plant, hire labor, and allocate time and resources. Once the season begins, our sales channels are committed—and it is nearly impossible to sell one share’s worth of produce on a week-to-week basis to recover the lost revenue.
8. Payment
Full payment is due at the time of sign-up and is processed through our website. At this time, we do not offer installment plans or hold spots without payment.
9. Copyright & Media Release
All content related to The Boreal Farm—including this website, emails, product descriptions, photography, logos, and written materials—is original and protected under U.S. copyright law. No part of our content may be reused, reproduced, or distributed without express written permission.
By joining the CSA, you agree that any images taken by The Boreal Farm of your share box, cooler setup, or on-farm pickup (not including images of your person unless permission is granted) may be used for promotional, educational, or social media purposes.
If you prefer not to have any part of your pickup or cooler shared, just let us know; we’ll gladly respect your wishes.

10. CSA Is a Relationship
CSA is more than just a weekly box of vegetables. It’s a relationship built on trust, communication, and seasonal rhythm. We commit to growing with care—by hand, in step with the land—and you commit to supporting the real, day-to-day work of small-scale, certified organic farming.
It’s this partnership that makes what we do possible. We’re grateful to grow for you—and to have you alongside us for the season.
11. Confirmation
By completing your purchase, you confirm that:
- You understand the nature of CSA membership
- You agree to the expectations outlined above
- You’re ready to Sow. Reap. Eat. Repeat.™
...
Thank you for reading; and for supporting a farm that grows with care, intention, and in rhythm with the season. We’re so glad you’re here.

Meet the Farmers
Behind The Boreal Farm is a small but mighty team: my family and me. We’re the ones in the field at sunrise, the hands on the harvest, the ones who chase chickens, pull weeds, and pause for every rainbow.
Farming is our way of life—and our way of giving back. Between walk-behind tractor repairs and carrot washing, we’re raising kids, planting seeds of curiosity, and finding laughter through the rough spots (mostly at ourselves).
It’s not always tidy, and it’s never boring. But this life—rooted in the rhythms of the North—feeds more than just our table. It’s where we’ve found purpose, patience, and the joy of watching something grow.
